Cristiano Laux
Director, Research and Telecom Consulting

Cristiano is a Research and Telecom Consulting Director in Pyramid Research’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In his role, Cristiano focuses on helping clients develop growth strategies, service repositioning, and business models for converging communications services driven by Pyramid’s latest forecasts models, insights into global best practices, and overall competitive landscape in global communications, mobile media and technology sectors. 

Cristiano has a broad experience in the Latin America telecommunications sector where he has managed a wide variety of consulting projects related to market opportunity assessment, partner identification, entry strategy, and investment advisory. His areas of expertise include analyzing strategic organic and acquisition-related growth opportunities, international comparison and benchmarking, and business modeling.  Cristiano has also undertaken M&A advisory projects, and managed due diligence and valuation projects in support of the debt and equity financing of telecom ventures.

  • Global market assessment for the built-in 3G laptops and mobile broadband global opportunity.
  • 3G Handset Devices and Smartphones market forecast for Latin American markets.
  • Multi-market concept testing, research & analysis for introduction of new mobile Apps solution in global emerging markets.
  • Business plan and service strategy development for a Latin American carrier.
  • Business review and repositioning of late entrant mobile operators in rapidly growing emerging markets.
  • Due diligence for a leading Latin American telecom operator applying for $400 million debt financing from the Inter-American Development Bank.  Cristiano has also performed similar telecom due diligence activities for investment banks in other emerging markets.
  • Investment advisory and M&A valuation of a wholesale network service provider in Latin America.

In addition to advising clients on strategy and market growth opportunities, Cristiano is a leading expert in the field of built-in 3G laptop mobile broadband bundles.   He co-managed a global industry research sponsored by the GSM Association in conjunction with Microsoft, and presented the research findings to operators around the world.   In 2009, Cristiano co-authored another industry research report capturing the mobile broadband netbook trend, “Mobile Broadband for the Masses: The Business Case for Bundled Netbooks”.

Cristiano is the chairman of the 2009 NGT Latin America Summit in Panama City, and keynote speaker at the 2009 ITU Regional Human Capacity Development Forum for the Americas in Brazil.  He also presented at the 2008 Mobile Internet and Broadband Latin America Forum in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Cristiano is an MBA graduate from Babson College, completed a 3-year global leadership development program at Lucent Technologies, and is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English. He travels often to Latin America maintaining constant interaction with key telecommunication market players.  In his spare time, Cristiano enjoys playing soccer, surfing, grilling Brazilian barbecues for family and friends, and more recently engaged in the practice of snowboarding.
