Jose Magaña is a senior analyst with Pyramid Research’s regional team. He is responsible for tracking market trends in El Salvador and Panama and supporting several custom initiatives including the telecom markets across Latin America. Jose has written several Perspectives covering topics such as mobile value added services, Web portals, Social Networks, liberalization of mobile markets among others. One key area of focus for Jose is CAPEX in Latin America. He is based out of the company’s headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Before joining Pyramid Research, Jose acquired particular expertise in finance and economic research through several positions. He was the head trader at Banco Agricola—now BanColombia—the largest financial group in Central America. Here, Jose managed an investment portfolio worth US$500m, forecasted economic trends of some Central American economies and the US and performed investment strategies including relative value trades, fundamental and technical analysis. Jose also worked for Banco Salvadoreno (now HSBC) as a trader and analyst, being involved in research, valuation and project analysis.
Jose holds an MBA/MSF from Boston College, where he graduated with Dean’s Letter of Commendation in 2008. At school, Jose was an active contributor to the BC Financial Magazine. He holds a Major in business and administration from Escuela Superior de Economía y Negocios (ESEN), El Salvador. He is fluent in his native Spanish and in English and holds a basic knowledge of French. In his free time, Jose likes to read, write and play soccer.
