FTTH Deployments in the UAE to Boost Broadband Services
August 16, 2010
Current FTTH projects are being implemented in the UAE that should connect all houses to the fiber network by end of 2011. This will boost broadband services such as VoIP and IPTV.
Pyramid Research projects the growth of different broadband services based on the ongoing FTTH plans in the Emirates. We project VoIP lines, despite the global stagnant state of fixed lines due to cellular boom, to grow at a 2010-2015 CAGR of 9%. Moreover, Pyramid Research believes FTTH will create a suitable atmosphere for the adoption of IPTV services in the country, especially after the financial crisis. We project IPTV lines to grow at a 2010-2015 CAGR of 23% despite the plethora of free content existent in the Arab region due to the FTA satellite channels.
UAE: Fiber Deployments Will Boost Uptake of Pay-TV and VoIP Country Intelligence Report published July 2010
The UAE telecom market generated $6.1bn in service revenue in 2009 and can look forward to healthy but not dramatic growth between 2010 and 2015. The fastest significant growth segments will be broadband Internet and mobile data. A key change over the next five years is the switch from copper to fiber fixed-line infrastructure that is currently underway and due to be completed by 2011. As well as providing a boost to broadband revenue, the change will enable significant growth in the pay- TV and fixed VoIP sectors for the first time.
