Cambridge, Massachusetts- Febrauary 1, 2012- The slow adoption of communications and IT services in the SME segment in Latin America is a consequence of a number of market failures, but SMEs will find greater success with the right combination of operators and governments working together, according to a new report from Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com).
How SMEs in Latin America Can Benefit from ICT Access and More Financing examines some of the reasons that prevent the SME segment in Latin America from increasing its productivity and therefore increasing its share of overall GDP. Pyramid Research will share examples of how governments work with the private sector to develop programs for technology adoption and promotion of SMEs. Two case studies will be presented: Colombia and Argentina.

"Poor SME knowledge, lenders being averse to providing financial support to SMEs, and inadequate ICT vendor sales and support mechanisms are several barriers to the adoption of communications and IT services in the SME segment," explains Jose Manuel Mercado, Senior Analyst at Pyramid Research. Given these impediments, it is imperative that operators and governments in Latin America work in tandem to devise programs and services that promote access to ICT, improve access to financing sources and promote the strategic use of technology to improve productivity levels and reduce costs. "Such actions will positively impact the SME segment in Latin America and will also provide opportunities for operators and financial institutions in Latin America to expand the range of services offered to SMEs," he adds.
How SMEs in Latin America Can Benefit from ICT Access and More Financing is part of Pyramid Research's Telecom Insider Report Series and is priced at $595.
