Pyramid Research’s Sonia Jorge will deliver a keynote address, "Is Africa ready for a regional champion?", at the Africa Telecom Forum taking place in Marrakech, Morocco on December 2-3, 2010.  Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com) is proud to be a Media Partner of this event.

Africa Telecom Forum (http://www.i-conferences.org/atf) is the premier telecom event in North West and Central Africa. This event will mainly focus on regulation challenges and issues. On the agenda, there are three days of debates to highlight the impact of the different regulatory approaches on the development of telecom, technological innovations, infrastructures sharing, universal service, and regional Interconnection. The conference workshops and training session will focus on practical issues, such as mobile payment and convergence. Join more than 250 industry professionals, telecom operators, regulation authorities, and equipment suppliers from over 20 countries in North, West, and Central Africa.

As speaker, Sonia will discuss the pros and cons of the emergence of regional champions in Africa. The strategy of those operators is often dictated by the needs to generate economies of scale and to secure a good return on investment. This keynote will also discuss the logic behind recent mergers and acquisitions, as well as the impact of this trend on the sector’s development.  Sonia Jorge is a Research and Consulting Director, leading the Africa and the Middle East team and responsible for Pyramid’s global regulatory and policy consulting practice.  Sonia has close to 20 years of experience as an international consultant in communications policy and regulation, gender, and development.
