Basic voice will remain the core application for mobile telephony in Cameroon, although its share of total telecom revenue will decrease slightly from 78.9% in 2008 to 75.1% by 2014. The entry of MVNO Yemba in 2008 and potential entry of the national fixed incumbent Camtel as an operator in the mobile market will collectively result in faster growth over the next five years, as greater competition results in lower prices. However, poor network services could be an impediment to growth in the mobile segment. Under current circumstances, the fixed segment remains largely under-exploited, but the introduction of the CT-Phone, a popular CDMA-based limited mobility service launched by Camtel in late 2005, has led to slightly faster fixed voice adoption during recent years. The growth prospects will improve if Camtel is privatized. Going forward, however, Internet services will be the main driver of fixed-sector growth as a result of the boost in the provision of WiMAX broadband services and the fact that new ISPs, such as Ringo and Saconet, have entered the market, providing services even to rural areas. We therefore expect Internet revenue to increase almost fivefold from $20m in 2009 to $97m in 2014, a CAGR of 37.8%.
