Publication Date: June 2009
The telecommunications market in Chile generated $5.2bn in revenue in 2008. We expect it to be worth $4.6bn in 2009, a 12% decrease, but to expand at a CAGR of 6.6% over the next five years, for a total of $6.4bn in 2014. Mobile broadband adoption, which added more than 225,000 subscribers in 2008, and the increasing uptake of fixed broadband in bundled offers from telcos will make the largest contributions to the expansion of the broadband sector. Revenue from fixed circuit-switched voice will decline at a -3.4% rate as a consequence of the adoption of VoIP, fixed-to-mobile substitution and increasing pressure on end-user tariffs.
