The telecommunications market in Honduras generated $863m in 2008. With low penetration in both fixed and mobile services, compared with larger markets such as Guatemala and El Salvador, Pyramid Research expects a 4.6% CAGR expansion driven by mobile data services (18.3% CAGR) and broadband Internet (23.2% CAGR), which will offset declines in fixed circuit voice and dial-up Internet. VoIP will enjoy a rapid expansion over the forecast period, but it will remain a very small portion of the total revenue pie. We expect IPTV services to be offered in 2010 and to generate less than $1m in revenue by 2014. Both IP-based services will depend on the reach of the liberalization reform, which has been pending approval since 2007.
