We estimate the telecom market (excluding pay-TV) in Hungary generated $5.2bn in service revenue in 2008, from $4.9bn in 2007. We anticipate that it will be worth $5.6bn by 2013. Mobile voice is currently the largest revenue segment and is expected to remain so through 2013. At the same time, mobile data’s share of total revenue will grow from 11.4% in 2008 to 20.9% in 2013 — from $0.6bn to $1.2bn.
We anticipate that Magyar Telekom’s share (including T-Com) of the market in terms of revenue will slightly decrease, from 51% of the total telecom market in 2008 to 45% in 2013. However, its mobile arm, T-Mobile, will maintain its strong position, with 32% of the total revenue share in 2013, slightly up from 28% in 2008. The incumbent’s share of the fixed market is expected to go down from 62% in 2007 to 40% in 2013, as a result of increased competition boosted by the regulatory climate as well as consolidation among the alternative operators.
