The Portuguese telecom market, excluding traditional pay-TV, generated $6.4bn in service revenue during 2007. Despite the economic slowdown, with its impact on domestic demand through consumer spending, we expect the telecommunications market to deliver a positive CAGR of 1% between 2008 and 2013, one of the highest among Western European markets. In local currency terms, this growth will be 2.6% for the same period. Broadband and mobile data services will be the main drivers of this growth, which will offset the decline in traditional voice services, both fixed and mobile. IPTV is also starting to gain traction, further increasing telecom revenue.
