The Romanian telecom market generated €5.3bn ($6.6bn) in service revenue in 2008, a 13.7% year-on-year increase in euro terms. We expect Romania’s telecom market to grow to €6.4bn ($7.6bn) over the next five years, at a CAGR (in US$ terms) of 4.3%. The fastest significant growth segments will be IPTV, fixed VoIP and mobile data. Mobile voice, fixed broadband and pay-TV, although growing more slowly, will remain attractive due to their important weight in the overall Romanian communications market. Their combined revenue will account for 73.7% of total telecom revenue by 2014. As in the rest of Europe, dial-up Internet is on its way out; circuit-switched voice lines are being disconnected. These are the segments that will experience a negative growth in the forecast period, fixed circuit-switched and dial-up, showing CAGRs of -3.6 and -48.2%, respectively.
