The network operating responsibilities of JTM were transferred to a new organisation, Syarikat Telekom Malaysia Berhad (STM), on October 12, 1984. On May 27, 1991, STM officially changed its name to Telekom Malaysia. The company has been listed on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange since November 1990.
