Cesky Telecom as, formerly known as SPT Telecom, is the privatised incumbent fixed-line telecommunications network operator in the Czech Republic. In addition to voice telephony services, the company offers high-speed data communications and dial-up and broadband Internet access services. Through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Eurotel Praha, the company offers analogue and digital cellular telephony services nationwide. Eurotel Praha has also secured one of two 3G mobile communications licences in the Czech Republic and plans to launch 3G services in December 2005.
In June 2005, Cesky Telecom became part of the Telefónica Group, when the Spanish operator acquired the 51.1% stake held by the National Property Fund of the Czech Republic. Telefónica later raised its stake in Cesky Telecom to 69.4% as part of a mandatory buyout offer to minority shareholders.
