Juniper Networks designs and sells products and services that together provide its customers with secure and assured Internet protocol (IP) networking solutions. Its solutions are incorporated into the global web of interconnected public and private networks across which a variety of media, including voice, video, and data, travel to and from end users around the world. The company's network infrastructure solutions enable service providers and other network-intensive businesses to support and deliver services and applications on a highly efficient and low cost integrated network.

During 2005, Juniper Networks operations were organised into the following three operating segments: Infrastructure, Service Layer Technologies (SLT), and Service. The company's Infrastructure segment primarily offers scalable router products that are used to control and direct network traffic. The company's SLT segment offers solutions that meet an array of its customer's priorities, from protecting data on the network, to maximising existing bandwidth and acceleration of applications across a distributed network. Together, its secure networking solutions help enable its customers to convert networks that provide commoditised best efforts services into more valuable assets that provide differentiation and value and increased reliability and security to end users. Its Service segment delivers worldwide services to customers of the Infrastructure and SLT segments. Subsequent to 2005, the company re-aligned its product groups began reporting Kagoor products in the Infrastructure segments beginning in 2006.

As of March 1, 2006, beneficial owners of more than 5% of Juniper Networks' common stock were: AXA Financial Inc (19.09%), FMR Corp (7.8%), an T Rowe Price Associates (5.19%).
