Lattelekom was founded in 1994, when the government of Latvia formed a joint venture with TILTS Communications, which is owned by Sonera Holding BV, a subsidiary of TeliaSonera AB. Lattelekom became the incumbent operator in Latvia, and held a monopoly on the provision of basic telecommunications services until January 1, 2003.
Lattelekom provides telecommunications, data transmission, Internet, contact centre, integrated electronic communications, and IT services in Latvia. The company has three subsidiaries - C1, Citrus Solutions, and Lattelekom Communications Systems. The company also has an ownership stake in Latvijas MobilaisTelefons (LMT), one of three GSM licence holders in Latvia.
Lattelekom is currently 51%-owned by the government of Latvia and 49%-owned by TILTS Communications.
