Broadband uptake has been phenomenal in Brazil, as many incumbents have already hit or surpassed their 2005 subscriber estimates.  While this growth should continue in the medium term, Analyst Thomas Abreu believes market concentration may hamper uptake in the long run.

Central America:  US Says Yes to CAFTA

CAFTA celebrated a major success in July by securing a narrow margin victory in the US House of Representatives.  While the treaty still has some hurdles to overcome before being fully ratified, the move is a step in the right direction and will have major implications for Central America's telecommunications sector, argues Analyst Vanessa Larez.
