Residential VoIP in Brazil: Incumbents Biding Their Time

In the past year, numerous VoIP providers have sprouted up in Brazil, finally prompting the incumbent operators to add their own IP-based solutions to their portfolio.  Analyst Thomas Dorr Abreu argues that low broadband penetration will minimize the impact of residential VoIP in Brazil, and that the incumbents will be well-positioned once they launch triple-play solutions.

Mexico: Government Initiative Opens the Door for Converged Services

A recent ruling by Mexico's Federal Commission of Competition has enhanced the prospect of "Triple Play" service offerings in the country not only for pay TV operators but also for incumbent Telmex and other fixed line providers.  Analyst Omar Salvador argues that while decree will change the structure of the market, significant roadblocks remain in place which will impede converged service offerings.
