Japan:  Vodafone's Rise and Fall … and Rise Again?

In June 2005, Vodafone K.K. finally ended its string of subscriber losses by adding 5,300 net subscribers.  Analyst Jane Buenaventura argues while this is welcomed news for the operator, changing market conditions will put even more pressure on the country's third major player in 2006.    

Vietnam:  Market Friendly Policies Entice Foreign Entrants

Recent moves by Vietnam's communist government to ease investment into the telecommunications space is attracting attention of foreign investors.  Associate Analyst Krishna Kanagarayer believes the fragmented mobile market is ripe for acquisitions and future entrants will help make Vietnam one of Asia's fastest growing mobile markets.

Hong Kong:  PCCW Goes for Four

PCCW's recent purchase of 60 percent of Hong Kong's smallest mobile operator, Sunday Communications, will propel the incumbent's "Quadruple Play" ambitions and realize cost synergies on content acquisitions, well-positioning the operator to compete in the long run according to Analyst Yiru Zhong.
