ANALYSIS SUMMARY
Leading Romanian cable operator RCS & RDS is planning to commercially launch 3G by the end of 2007. The Romanian mobile market is already well-established with four Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)—Orange, Vodafone, Telemobil Zapp, and CosmOTE. Orange, Vodafone, and Telemobil Zapp already offer 3G. RCS & RDS is a very well-positioned and diversified fixed operator with over 1 million cable subscribers, nationwide fiber optic network, and a strong brand, but does it have what is takes to succeed in the highly competitive world of mobile telecoms? Although the Romanian mobile market is very tough, we believe RCS & RDS has several competitive advantages, which, combined with a sound entrance strategy, will help it be successful in the mobile sector.
