MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS: Colombia's Market Opportunity Constricted by Overestimated Population, Although There Is Substantial Room for Growth
In the latter half of 2006, two announcements had a profound impact on the Colombian telecommunications market. First, the country’s statistical entity, the Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadistica (DANE), announced that the country’s population had been overestimated by nearly 4m people, although finalized figures have not yet been released. Next, the industry and trade regulator announced that the number of mobile subscriptions in Colombia had also been overestimated by 1.4m subscriptions.
