Global capital expenditures for mobile infrastructure will be around $39.6bn in 2004, up 12% from $35.3bn in 2004. Indeed, most mobile infrastructure vendors posted double-digit revenue growth percentages in the first half of 2004 when compared to 2003, clearly showing increased demand for cellular equipment. The major drivers of this increase include increased mobile subscriber growth, higher levels of GSM replacements, especially in Europe, and traction of CDMA EVDO deployments, particularly in the US.

This report is designed to support vendors in designing or evaluating their portfolios of target operators and markets. The main body of this report focuses on each region individually — Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe, Latin America, and Africa and the Middle East — drawing attention to the trends driving CAPEX and the top-spending regional operators.

We discuss the overall global mobile CAPEX opportunity and provide market size forecasts for these newer areas of operator spending. In addition, the report discusses regional trends in infrastructure CAPEX, with a detailed look at operator spending patterns and technology choices.

Additional highlights of the report include

*Detailed definitions and methodology for Pyramid's mobile CAPEX service.
*A close look at subscriber growth in each region of interest.
*Profiles of major players including Cingular, Verizon, Nextel and Vodafone.
*An update at the progress of the Telefónica/BellSouth merger.
