Badii Kechiche
Associate Manager, Africa

Badii Kechiche is an Associate Manager with Pyramid Research’s Africa & Middle East (AME) regional team. He is responsible for producing cutting-edge qualitative and quantitative analysis on AME telecommunications markets.

Badii is responsible for the overall quality, aggregation and delivery of mobile, fixed and handset forecasts for the AME region. Additionally, Badii produces regular qualitative analysis, contributing to Pyramid’s Country Intelligence Reports and Telecom Market Insiders. His latest publications include the following titles: Nigeria regulatory reforms spur competition and keeps operators busy, Business Services to drive WiMAX success in AME markets, South Africa: Operators continue to upgrade networks as mobile data demand builds, AME: a refuge for battered handset vendors, AME CAPEX looking up in the face of the global economic downturn, Leveraging SMS to attract the low end of the Income Scale, Fixed Services in Africa: Exploring Greenfields and Navigating Minefields, 3G Licensing in Tunisia: The Effect on Mobile Broadband Uptake.

Though based in London, Badii travels extensively in the AME region for research, client engagements and industry conferences. He regularly contributes expert opinion to media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, CNBC Africa, the New York Times Magazine, the Financial Times, Dow Jones News, Light Reading TV and Voice of America, among others.

Recently, Badii acted as one of the main authors of a Pyramid study analyzing the impact of mobile services in Nigeria. He managed the primary research phase of this project engaging with a wide variety of telecom operators, equipment vendors, NGOs, content developers, government agencies and end users in order to understand the business models and operations of mobile applications for urban and rural communities in the areas of education, health, productivity and entertainment among others.

Badii’s other consulting engagements include:

  • Managing the research and forecasting for a global analysis of service provider opex structures for the purpose of identifying best in class ratios and practices, solution provider perception of managed services vendors, and the low-hanging fruit in the outsourcing and managed services area
  • Analysis and recommendations on fixed-mobile convergence opportunities and go-to-market strategies for a pan-African operator
  • Analysis of go-to-market strategies for a dark fiber network provider and the impact of fiber deployment on e-applications
  • Analysis of FTTH business cases, commercial strategies and service positioning across various markets in the EMEA region
  • A market sizing project covering the enterprise segment in a group of AME countries for a multinational mobile operator

Prior to joining Pyramid Research, Badii worked with Small Business Development Center, a US-based organization that assists with business plan creation and evaluation, as well as the analysis and projection of operational and financial KPIs for small and medium-sized enterprises. Badii holds an MBA from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and a dual undergraduate degree in International Business and Finance from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. Badii also studied English Literature at the University of Sfax, Tunisia. In addition to being fluent in English, Badii is a native Arabic and French speaker.
