Bahrain: Competitive Forces Drive Growth in Data Services
The distribution of revenue between fixed and mobile services will be stagnant over the forecast period. The growth in broadband adoption following the introduction of infrastructure-based competition of fixed wireless operators, and the expected launch of LLU in 2010 will more than compensate for the gradual shrinking of fixed voice ARPS and penetration. On the mobile side, the sector is approaching the saturation point and will grow at a CAGR of only 1.9% from 2009-2014.
Data services will be the main drivers of growth in both the fixed and mobile sectors. Broadband revenue will rise despite falling prices, as the number of subscribers grows from 150,000 in 2007 to 245,000 in 2014. Mobile data revenue will increase from $105m to $239m over the same period, driven largely by SMS and mobile broadband.
