The telecom market in Puerto Rico generated $2.3bn in 2008, a 0.7% growth compared with the level in 2007. Going forward, the market will experience a slow expansion due to a decreasing voice market, despite the growth in data services. For the 2009-2014 period, we expect the market to grow at a CAGR of 3.3%. The challenging economic environment will slow mobile adoption and pay-TV uptake over the next five years. The recent incursion of big telecom operators, such as AT&T and T-Mobile, looking to expand beyond the US in the mobile market may also put additional pressure on tariffs but will spur offerings in data services, such as mobile Internet and infotainment content. In the fixed segment, we see broadband expanding at a CAGR of 16.7% to generate $390m by 2014. Broadband will also encourage subscribers to migrate to cheaper VoIP plans and will hasten a decline in PSTN lines.
